Well-chosen nouns can be used to make the image more complete in the reader’s mind.
Man: knight, scholar, gentleman, stranger, ruffian, thug, fugitive

These nouns give the reader a sense of what the character is like. In your writing, try to avoid general and vague words. You should try to help the reader to imagine what you are trying to describe.

Besides using specific nouns, you could also add colour by using descriptive words before or after the nouns. Tell us more about what you want us to picture in our minds:

Add another descriptive clause: Panting dog sniffing eagerly...
